The San Diego Festival of Science & Engineering is excited to announce the return of THE BRIGHT IDEA SOCIETY for its third year. The Bright Idea Society provides three awards for San Diego County K-12 Science and Engineering Clubs. The award recognizes and supports existing science/engineering clubs and provides them with a venue at the Festival’s grand finale EXPO DAY at PETCO Park on Saturday, March 21, 2015 to showcase their ideas to thousands of Festival participants of all ages.

Each Club performed exceptionally well, and their work promoting science education is truly top-notch. We can't wait to see the Finalists' exhibits at EXPO DAY at PETCO Park!
Elementary School
Green Elementary, San Diego Unified School District
Students from Green Elementary in the San Carlos neighborhood of San Diego, will help EXPO guests understand the danger of storm water in our local community in a highly interactive exhibit. Participants will be able to add ‘rain,’ ‘trash’ and ‘oil’ to their storm water sample and watch it reach San Diego Bay in mock 3D setup of San Diego. Kids and parents will then have the opportunity to filter water the polluted water. This display will provide a hands-on look on the dangers of storm water pollution and ways it is filtered preventing environmental damage.
Middle School
Twin Peaks Middle School, Poway Unified School District
EXPO participants will have the opportunity to learn about sustainable food production and water conservation. Their display will feature a display of aquaponics and “smart irrigation” technology. EXPO attendees will also have the opportunity to win an eco-friendly prize by participating in their booth (while supplies last). Visitors will gain a greater understanding of methods being used to produce food while consuming less water highlighting important community and global issues of the California drought and water usage as well as equitable food production and conservation. Twin Peaks Middle School is in Poway, California.
High School
High Tech High International, San Diego Unified School District
Have you heard of Cyanotyping? Do you know anything about it? You will after visiting the High Tech High International booth at the 2015 San Diego Festival of Science & Engineering EXPO Day. Visitors will create their own cyanotype picture to take home by mixing emulsions from raw chemicals and placing various objects and photos on photosensitive paper. The projects will them be exposed to sunlight creating individual unique works of art. Attendees will learn about how light intersects with matter. High Tech High International is located in the Point Loma neighborhood of San Diego.
