Families

San Diego State University

Student clubs and outreach organizations from San Diego State University will provide engaging and interactive demonstrations and activities for students and families of all ages. From rocket launches and racecars to marine animals and sound waves, audiences will learn directly from SDSU students in science and engineering about their favorite subjects.

DPR Construction

We are planning to present a hands-on virtual reality experience (using DPR Construction’s own kid-friendly cardboard headsets) that lets visitors, using their own cell phones, follow a URL to a real 3D Building Information Model hosted in the Cloud. The general experience is meant to demonstrate how technology helps our teams bring 2D construction plans to life. We also have some kid-friendly activities such as scavenger hunts and clash detection searches that we can have them participate in, depending on timing.

Pittcon Conference and Exposition

Visitors will launch a rocket, study the amazing properties of water, view microscopic life forms and write a secret message with the magic of science. These hands-on demos will share basic concepts in chemistry, biology, and physics using safe and readily available materials. Booth visitors will be eligible for a free registration to the Pittcon Conference and Exposition which will be held in San Diego in February 2024.

High Temperature Fusion is Very Cool!

Two presenters will provide lively demonstrations on states of matter, electricity & magnetism, force & pressure - these are science categories we use in our nuclear fusion research work. The demonstrations could include: liquid nitrogen, magnetic can launcher, Tesla coil, bed-of-nails, steel can differential pressure crush.

Don't Try This at Home

Stand back, we're doing SCIENCE! Discover how fun science can be. People of all ages will get excited about science with ths high-energy, educational performance filled with interactive demonstrations that are too loud, too shocking, and too 'cool' to try at home!

Mechanical Advantage, Team 16884

Mechanical Advantage is a FIRST Tech. Challenge robotics team comprised of high school students. The team provides hands-on robotics demonstrations to attendees at community events. The team's robots are no more than 18" cubed and can operated from a table top and on the ground (i.e., driven) depending on available space. The team has operated from both a 10' x 10' and 10' x 20' booth at past Expo Events. The team's past participation has been sponsored by companies like Cox Communications.

SYSTRA IBT

Test your knowledge of bridges as our engineers demonstrate the concepts of bridge engineering using scale models built with K'NEX blocks. Visitors will discover how bridges are designed and built and learn how they, too, can become bridge engineers.

Illumina

We will have a series of activities realted to DNA. We would like to be in the Park in the Park area with most likely the same set up. This year, I thought it could be an interesting idea to bring in some of our partners to have space in our area. I will follow-up as we get more information.
