Spinning Wheel - What should and should not go Down the Drain.
We have an interactive Jeopardy style game called "Water You Know" with prizes awarded for each level. The topics include questions about our local and imported water supply, water challenges, conservation and more.
Frontier Water Systems will demonstrate some of the engineering and design which goes into the creation of our equipment and Bioreactors. We will also show how these are used in the treatment and removal of selenium, nitrate and heavy metals from water that may then be returned to our lakes and rivers. FWS employs innovative Engineers from many disciplines such as Electrical, Computer, Chemical, and Mechanical. We hope to inspire young Engineers to help with our future needs of clean water.
Come and learn about how green chemistry is changing the field of chemistry. Green chemistry focuses on designing products and processes that minimize hazards and environmental impacts to make the field of chemistry more sustainable.
Optics and Photonics Displays, Demonstrations and Hands-on activities. Lots of fun!
10x30; 2 tables next to each other on one side of the "flu bug" vehicle and 1 table on the other side of the car.
Imprinted Glowie - "Plastics casting from 3D printed parts in homemade molds with LED lights. Mold your own glowing heart, skull, etc... from natural, reusable, low temp thermoplastic; light it up with an LED and coin battery."
Our practicing bridge engineers will share their knowledge and passion for structural engineering, which draws on math, physics, design, art, materials, and construction. In addition to illustrative exhibits, we provide an engaging hands-on model bridge building activity that is designed to introduce youth of all ages to basic structural engineering concepts. Bridge model kits are used, consisting of paint-mixing sticks, binder clips, chains, S-hooks, and large bottles of water for load testing.
You’ve likely experienced older adults with hearing aids struggling to hear what you’re saying to them. You probably feel like hearing loss might have something to do with age, right? But have you ever considered which types of sounds they find the hardest to hear? Since sounds are made of waves which vibrate at different frequencies, certain types of sounds are harder to hear!
In this exploration, festival goers will participate in an experience to investigate how aging impacts hearing.
Participants will balance bricks on levers, feel the benefit of using pulleys, and see how inclined planes can decrease work.
It takes true community spirit and engagement to build a successful Festival and create meaningful year-round STEAM experiences for youth and families throughout San Diego.
