Join our practicing engineers in hands-on demonstrations of scale model bridges. Test the limits of each model, and discover the secrets of how they work.
Learn how bridges withstand the forces of cars, trucks, trains, wind, earthquakes, and more. See and touch actual bridge materials. Learn how you, too, can become a bridge engineer!
*Mollie is sending Deb description of booth early next week - Marketing approving for me now.
Beach and Bay Water Quality Monitoring Program will use a 3-D watershed model to demonstrate how surface water run-of and pollution leads to contamination of our beaches and bays. This impact on our recreational waters can affect our health. Also, we plan on demonstrating the various laboratory processes used for water quality testing in our public health lab, which help identify if the water has microbial pathogens.
We will need 4 to 6 tables.
We will have a mechanical lung on display where participants can learn more about Cystic Fibrosis and what it is doing to the human body. Participants will have the chance to build a set of lungs using a plastic cup and balloons. We will also have DNA origami that participants can build. We will also show DNA extraction of a strawberry all while providing instructions for participants to follow at home.
The booth will include info about mosquitoes & public health. There will be interactive activities where visitors can look at insect samples under microscopes. Visitors will learn about the mosquito life cycle, entomology, and how to stay safe from vector transmitted diseases. There will also be giveaways like pencils, magnets, or magnifiers. Info about other environmental health programs including water quality analysis will also be available. We will try to have a Spanish speaker present.
