Insulation Investigation allows students to test how blubber helps marine mammals stay warm in cold water. Participants first dip an unprotected finger into icy water, then repeat the experiment with their finger covered in Model Magic to simulate blubber. By comparing both experiences, students see how insulation reduces heat loss and supports survival in cold ocean environments.

San Diego Metropolitan System is the regional public transportation provider for Central, Southern and Eastern San Diego County. We operate four Trolley lines and almost 100 bus routes to keep the San Diego region moving.

Public outreach regarding environmental stewardship. Informational games providing education for protecting the environment.

We will have Educators with artifacts that participants can interact with (e.g., touch fur, horn, skulls) and learn about wildlife and conservation. We will also have an activity where participants learn about different conservation actions they can take and commit to, and add to an art piece.

Build a Better Lab- Magnetic or Velcro board where people design a “green lab” by choosing equipment, behaviors, and layouts.
Energy Hog Guessing Game- Show pictures of lab equipment and have people rank them from lowest to highest energy use.
Green Pledge Tree- Kids write or draw one thing they’ll do to help the planet and hang it on a paper tree.

STEM activities and demonstrations such as fossils, electricity items, and afterschool tutoring opportunities.

Children will be holding dry ice bubbles.

Learn where mosquitoes come from and how to prevent them! View samples the mosquito lifecycle using a microscope or magnifying glasses in order to learn about where mosquitoes come from. Explore a mock back backyard setup to search for sources that can hold water and breed mosquitoes and learn about what repellent will keep you protected from mosquito diseases.

Connect with the County of San Diego Parks and Recreation, Environmental Health and Quality, and San Diego County Library for interactive activities - play with dry-ice bubbles, get an up-close look at the mosquito lifecycle, say hello to raptors, and explore STEAM-themed books. Be sure to stop by the Live Well on Wheels bus to learn hands-only CPR, in partnership with Revive & Survive San Diego.
