Exploring Waves

San Diego State University representatives from science and engineering will provide engaging and interactive activities for students and families of all ages. Touch live sea animals, code your own bracelet, build neurons out of pipe cleaners, explore the solar system in virtual reality and more! Learn directly from the SDSU researchers and innovators leading San Diego to new heights in STEM.

We will demonstrate psychological principles (primarily perception and cognition) through activities. Some of the activities will include a memory box (to demonstrate the limits of short term memory), visual illusions (checkerboard, Ponzo, Muller-Lyer, etc.), and inversion goggles (that turn vision upside down).

The booth will feature a sugar demo that highlights the amount of sugar in popular fruit and sports drinks. The booth will also have activities to help children understand the importance in leading a healthy and active lifestyle.

We will be demonstrating several Psychological concepts, including concepts in memory, perception, and emotional expression recognition.

Child-friendly neuron building activity

The San Diego Public Library is excited to present our 2025 Spring into STEAM program, designed for ages 9-12. Our tentative theme, Solve IT, will explore the science of mystery solving, featuring age-appropriate forensic activities centered around biology and psychology. Should the theme change, we will provide updates. In addition, we’ll be promoting our library's resources, with a special focus on our STEM programming and services for youth and families.
