This year we would like to have 3 different projects to present to the students.
1. Organ matching board: This is a fun activity for younger kids (elementary) to try to match the cartoon organs to the appropriate function and associated disease.
2. Either a Makey Makey board or a Mindflex duel game: A Makey Makey Board (http://makeymakey.com/) is essentially a simple circuit board that can be used as a controller with your computer, which we will use to teach the kids (elementary-middle) about circuitry (grounding, completing the circuit, etc). We will hook the circuit board to one of our computers and have a game (most likely pac man) for them to play once they have completed the circuit. The other option we are exploring is a Mindflex duel game in order to talk to them about EEG's, and then they can go head to head in a competition of concentration.
3. We are currently in the works for our third project. If it is required for us to give specifics right now, we do have a project from last year that we may use, a bone stress model. This is basically an acrylic "bone-shaped" model with holes drilled into it, that we compress. We then place a dark mat over the model, and shine light through the back allowing someone from the front to stick their head in and see the lines of stress that are made as a result of the different holes we drilled. However, we would like to make a different, more hands on project this year, and we will update you on that via email or another preferred method.
