Come learn from architects how to design, draw and visualize your design in 2D and 3D. Bring your imagination and experience our booth featuring design technology and software, virtual reality and building blocks.
All ages welcome.
Kids will be able to help build and play with lego robots and learn about coding and engineering opportunities thru robotics programs.
Show and Tell items
We will have three interactive displays: Alka Seltzer lava lamp, KidSpark building blocks, and Math24 card game. We will also have physical displays: Pool noodle DNA model (made by Biotech class), Catapult (made by Precalculus classes), and Plant lab display (made by Biotech class).
Mind over Muscle
In this experiment, festival participants will use a hand dyanomter to measure your maximum grip strength and relate this to the electrical activity of the muscle. The strength of contraction of a whole muscle is dependent on the total number of muscle fibers involved and can be correlated with an EKG sensor. Participants will test their abilities by using maximum effort to test their grip over time and determine the mean force generated over the time period.
Test your knowledge of bridges as our engineers demonstrate the concepts of bridge engineering using scale models built with K'NEX blocks. Visitors will discover how bridges are designed and built and learn how they, too, can become bridge engineers.
Midshipmen from the United States Naval Academy mentor you through your choice of several hands-
on, interactive science and engineering modules for all ages. The diverse subject matter planned
includes a range of STEM topics including chemistry, aerodynamics, electricity, logic, and
robotics.
We will have a couple of hands-on activities, possibly including making play dough (for kids to begin to think in 3D and mold easy objects); 3D pen creations; fused bead projects, other ideas in the works. Booth visitors will learn about Clicbitz's UCSD Extended Studies college-credit approved courses for middle- and high-school students. Our curriculum: 3d printing, coding, maze game design, fashion design, sewing, sustainability, upcycling, alternative plastics, and more. www.clicbitz.com
Students will be showcasing learning, including Squishy Circuits and Lego Mindstorms Robots. Visiting attendees will have the opportunity to connect wires and playdough to light up a lightbulb while as they learn about electricity and circuits. Attendees can also engage in a robot race and hear about how they can use coding to design and drive robots.
It takes true community spirit and engagement to build a successful Festival and create meaningful year-round STEAM experiences for youth and families throughout San Diego.
