Magnolia Science Academy
Magnolia Science Academy is a California Distinguished School. MSA is a public, charter STEAM focused middle school serving San Diego since 2005. Our robotics students and teachers will be engaging guests by allowing them to try coding activities and operate remote controlled Vex IQ robots and even complete a VEX competition challenge!
Society of Women Engineers-San Diego
1. Simple Machines: demo/hands-on teaching of the inclined plane, the lever, & pulley to show how they can make work easier.
2. Power-up with Paper: Using a piece of paper, copper tape, coin battery, and LED's, students learn electrical connections when building their circuit and they get to take home.
From our phone convo, we will have middle/high school students and collegiate (from various schools) volunteering as NEAR PEER role models. Thank you for the school scholarship consideration!
Sally Ride Science @ UC San Diego
The Sally Ride Science Academy offers fascinating and fun STEAM workshops for students entering grades 3 through 12. Our online and in-person workshops let students investigate coding, acting, space science, marine biology and more, as they immerse themselves in hands-on projects. Top-notch STEAM instructors incorporate real-life stories of vibrant women conducting research in each field inspiring students and making STEAM careers more accessible.

UCSD Biomedical Engineering Society
UCSD BMES will present a demonstration about the respiratory systems using an assembled model of the lungs. The model will demonstrate how the diaphragm works to breath in and out of the lungs. We will also have a poster to give students an opportunity to work through some bioengineering problems about the respiratory system (Ex: What device would you create to help someone with breathing problems? Someone with a collapsed lung? Someone with a diseased or failing lung?).

STEAM Week Live Main Stage
The San Diego Festival of Science & Engineering, presented by the Illumina Foundation, will be fully virtual this year from April 24-May 2 on lovestemsd.org.
The Live Main Stage event is from 10am-6pm on Tuesday, April 27 and Wednesday, April 28 with fun and interactive STEAM activities, a special Women in STEAM event as well as a COVID-19 conversation for kids and teens.
