52 Weeks of Science Clairemont: Engineering Paper Machines

Engineering Paper Machines is a fun and interactive workshop that will introduce you to the design thinking techniques used by industry experts. Explore the endless possibilities between engineering and paper folding concepts. Learn various techniques of design and how to combine them to create your own paper machine to take home. Let us show you how paper folding and design thinking is applied to industries like medicine, manufacturing, social justice and more.

GLIDER LANDING

Team up with real pilots, engineers, and technicians to learn
about the principles of flight, then team up into squadrons and
attempt to land your powered balsa wood glider on a replica
aircraft carrier using design thinking, physics and flight testing.

ANIMATION & VIDEO GAME DESIGN USING SCRATCH

During this Library NExT game design course, students will learn how to make zombies walk and magic carpets fly. This course teaches animation basics as well as character and storyboard design. Each participant creates their own video game design project using MIT’s online programming platform, Scratch, from the MIT Media Lab. Scratch is an easy to use interface that incorporates fundamental logical concepts of computer programming, serving as a launch into all aspects of game design. No prior computer coding experience required.
