ANIMATION & VIDEO GAME DESIGN USING SCRATCH

During this Library NExT game design course, students will learn how to make zombies walk and magic carpets fly. This course teaches animation basics as well as character and storyboard design. Each participant creates their own video game design project using MIT’s online programming platform, Scratch, from the MIT Media Lab. Scratch is an easy to use interface that incorporates fundamental logical concepts of computer programming, serving as a launch into all aspects of game design. No prior computer coding experience required.

Maker Technology Course

Limit 25 people (18+ only). Are you an educator, tinkerer or craftsman looking to expand your repertoire? Examine the options of buying your own equipment or investing in a local maker space membership. This course provides an overview of various Maker tools and technologies, as well as the state of the industry. This course can save you thousands of dollars and hundreds of wasted hours of trying to find the best solution yourself.

STEAM Maker Open House

Come visit the workshop that your inner 12 year old would love to have attended and see how the STEAM sausage is made! Get ideas on how to implement Laser cutting, 3D printing, Robotics, Virtual Reality and more in the classroom or youth group environment. All ages welcome. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

STEM in Your Backyard: Lakeside

Join the Biocom Institute Festival of Science & Engineering as we celebrate STEM In the Lakeside community! Bring your family to the Lakeside Community Center for a FREE and fun filled day featuring over 25 interactive, hands-on exhibits from local businesses, nonprofits, and schools. All activities are designed to spark a love for science in your future innovator.

Music Notes STEM Hip Hop Concert

Join Music Notes for a high-energy concert promoting a love and appreciation for all things STEAM related through original hip hop songs. LaMar "Mr. Q-U-E" Queen and David "Mr. D" Landix, two math teachers from Los Angeles, CA have written hundreds of educational rap songs and traveled across the country performing at schools and events. Their videos have been viewed over 2,000,000 times on Youtube and over 200,000 students have been in attendance at their shows.

Music Notes STEM Concert

Started by a group of middle school teachers in Los Angeles, Music Notes specializes in creating educational hip hop songs and videos for all ages. They have traveled the country performing for over 100,000 students and their Youtube channel has gathered nearly 2,000,000 views. Music Notes will hit the stage at the San Diego Festival of Science and Engineering ready to perform some of their most popular STEM songs, which will be sure to have audience members singing and dancing along.

KGTV ABC 10News

Don't miss the ABC 10News Experience, a hands-on opportunity for kids to see how television news is created and what it is like to be a reporter or anchor. Learn how graphics are made, try your hand reading scripts, see being on camera comes together in a news story, weather report or breaking news.
