This year, as part of the 2018 Festival, we are hosting an event to highlight Women in STEM. On International Women’s Day, March 8th, there will be an informative and interactive event taking place at the Serra Mesa-Kearny Mesa Library from 6-9pm. The event will provide a space for young women to celebrate and exhibit their own achievements and learnings in STEM and to be motivated by a host of women who have moved the needle in STEM.
Explore interactive demonstrations and hands-on science activities at Super STEM Saturday, including rocket launches, build-a-robot stations, model displays, scientist chats and a obstacle course. The event is free and open to the public. Complimentary parking available in Lots E, F, and H.

Engineering Paper Machines is a fun and interactive workshop that will introduce you to the design thinking techniques used by industry experts. Explore the endless possibilities between engineering and paper folding concepts. Learn various techniques of design and how to combine them to create your own paper machine to take home. Let us show you how paper folding and design thinking is applied to industries like medicine, manufacturing, social justice and more.
Team up with real pilots, engineers, and technicians to learn
about the principles of flight, then team up into squadrons and
attempt to land your powered balsa wood glider on a replica
aircraft carrier using design thinking, physics and flight testing.
Thanks to NAVAIR and Aero Ed for presenting this workshop.
Students will learn fascinating facts, including how much they
would weigh if they lived on Jupiter and what causes craters
on neighboring planets. Have you ever wondered about what
causes craters?? Learn all this and other fascinating facts about
our neighboring planets and discover why our solar system is so
unique. Thanks to the Fleet for presenting this program.
Learn how computer programs are created and start coding
your own. Students will learn basic computer programming
and gain understanding of how our modern world works in
this fun and exciting workshop. Thanks to ThoughtSTEM for
presenting this workshop.
Students will work in teams to rescue a space ship stranded
on the surface of the moon due to a battery failure. Teams
will develop codes using markers to guide a mini-robot, called
an Ozobot that will retrieve supplies to for this hands-on outer
space rescue. Thanks to Microsoft for presenting this workshop.
