STEM in Your Backyard: East County

STEM in Your Backyard brings pocket-sized versions of the popular San Diego Festival of Science & Engineering EXPO Day to neighborhoods all over the county throughout the year. STEM In Your Backyard provides access to free, meaningful STEM experiences by bringing the spark of science directly to communities throughout San Diego.

Super STEM Saturday

Explore interactive demonstrations and hands-on science activities at Super STEM Saturday, including rocket launches, build-a-robot stations, model displays, scientist chats and a obstacle course. The event is free and open to the public. Complimentary parking available in Lots E, F, and H. Super STEM Saturday is designed to expose and engage kids of all ages and their families to the diverse and exciting fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, known as the STEM disciplines.

Genius in the House!

What can take your fun day at the science center to the next level? Genius in the House! This event brings brainiacs from fields such as biology, art, engineering, mathematics and more to the Fleet to enhance the exhibit experience. This is a casual event in the exhibit galleries, not a lecture, so you'll have the chance to chat with the genius and ask questions. Explore themes from our exhibitions in ways that are both insightful and delightful.

SUHSD Family STEAM Night

Students from Sweetwater Unified High School district invite you to this free community event designed to inspire a love of STEM in people of all ages! Come learn about science and technology through a series of interactive booths! You can learn how a 3D printer works, learn to solder your own circuit, play with a Non-Newtonian slime, hold a snake, build a parachute to test in the wind tunnel, and much, much more!

ART SCIENCE COGNITION: Metaphor Building

ART SCIENCE COMPLEX has originated and designed exercises using drawing and writing to promote latent ability within the brain. Metaphorical thinking promotes both neuroplasticity and "on demand "adult neurogenesis, the mature brain's ability to quickly adapt to novel information and experiential, conceptually driven learning--segue to the generation of new neurons in the hippocampal region, as well their successful integration into the preexisting neuronal network.

Expanding Your Horizons Conference

The Expanding Your Horizons Conference is a unique opportunity for girls in grades 6 through 10 to engage in hands-on workshops in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) led by San Diego’s top scientists, engineers, and specialists. This unique event is designed to foster young girls’ enthusiasm for STEM careers, inform them of professions and opportunities, and encourage them to continue their studies in science and math to reach their goals and objectives.
