Brain Development Imaging Lab at San Diego State University

The Brain Development Imaging Lab at SDSU studies both typical and atypical brain development, with a specific focus on understanding Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). At our booth, visitors will have the opportunity to see images of the brain, learn about brain function, and learn how various brain imaging techniques, including MRI, MEG, and EEG, work and what they reveal about the brain. They will do this through kid friendly activities involving model brains, coloring worksheets, and videos!

Cox Communications

Cox IP Packet Racer - students and families can build, decorate and race their own IP Packet Racer on our custom track against the Cox High Speed Network. This activity engages kids in many aspects of STEAM. Each child will take home their packet racer after engaging in the activity.

San Diego Public Library

This Spring, the San Diego Public Library launches its first annual STEAM program, with hands-on programs at each of its 36 locations. The Catalog of Life @ the Library effort is part of a Library citizen science initiative. Spring into STEAM: Bug Out! is geared towards students age 9 to12 and will feature free, hands-on science programs in March, April and May. Inspired by Catalog of Life, these programs will include entomology, coding, bioengineering and more.

Univision Radio

10 x 30 booth (2 10x10 booths) radio activities.

Participants will be able to see how radio works - they'll have an opportunity to record their radio commercials and hear themselves. We playback the audio to sound live. Many of these will actually be featured on the radio.

Geek Girl

We will have some Geek Girls at the booth to answer questions on tech. We will be setup with Star Wars and other props for pictures and selfies. We will have resource material.

KGTV ABC10

10News Experience with Interactive Green Screen - be a reporter for the day! Standing in front of the green screen and giving your report on the weather, traffic or wildfire is cool! Join ABC10 and Azteca San Diego 15 for your chance to learn how television is made. See the technology that is used everyday on 10News. You can share your video with family and friends for a truly interactive experience.

MilliporeSigma

Converted shipping container, turned science lab. Full length, with ADA accessable ramp is ~30 ft. long x 10ft wide. Inside the container we'll be running 3 experiments, primarily tied to the "unseen world" (what we cannot see with our naked eye, but can with the help of technology and microscopes) and DNA. If possible, we'd also like a space next to the container for a portable tent that could function as additional activity space.

UTC Aerospace Systems - Aerostructures

Attendees can interact with aerospace engineers to learn about the design and production of engine nacelles for commercial and military airplanes. Nacelles are aerodynamic structures that surround an airplane's engine, protecting it and helping to make it greener (more fuel efficient, quieter) and providing stopping power on landing. Attendees can learn how a nacelle system works and get hands-on with many of the materials that go into the nacelles we make for the world's newest airplanes.
