Gastec International Corporation
Live demonstration of the Gastec Gas Detector Tube System consisting of a handheld non-electric Gas Sampling Pump and Detector Tubes (for up to 350 different substances) containing non-hazardous reagents in which there will be a chemical reaction resulting in a color change and thereby able to determine what's in the air. There is also a children's version available for educational purposes.
Salk Institute
The Salk Institute will be on hand to share the latest research in our Harnessing Plants Initiative, an endeavor to sequester atmospheric carbon & reduce global temperatures. Attendees to our booth will learn about the power of plants, examine the structures of plant roots, & conduct a seed planting they can take home with them.
Pure Water San Diego
We are representing the City of San Diego's Pure Water Program. This program will create 1/2 of San Diego's water supply locally and sustainably. We are not selling anything, but will be there to provide information about the program and answer questions. We have some giveaways and an interactive prize wheel. We are open to brainstorming some other activities as well if needed.
San Diego Natural History Museum - The Nat
We're Here For Nature - The Nat celebrates 150 years. Hands on 'nature detective' activities - Scat Match, Native or Not?, The "Ologies" and Track Match. We'll play games that inspire the wonder of our local nature her in San Diego.
San Diego City College - School of Science, Mathematics, and Nursing/San Diego City College Outreach
Hands on activities in chemistry, physics, geosciences, astronomy, and life sciences. This will include live demonstrations and hands on experiments and activities.
Biodiesel & Algal Studies Group
Since 2009 Castle Park High students, with Dr. Pomeroy of UCSD, have learned to produce biodiesel from vegetable oil. Our booth demonstrates the step-by-step process of biodiesel synthesis, discusses the advantages of biodiesel over petroleum and outlines the ease of production. Our booth includes CAICE researchers who provide demonstrations concerning climate change and atmospheric chemistry. We also partner with Algenesis who demonstrate biodegradable materials that mimic plastics and foams.
Treobytes
1. Drones - Tent for drones with net. Participants can test their piloting skills (possibility of changing it to a robot instead of drones)
2. Treobytes Projects Showcase & 3D printer: Participants can control a small robot and play with some of our latest Arduino projects.
3. Hands-on project: Participants can put together a small laser-cut toy and test it.
MilliporeSigma and the Curiosity Cube
The Curiosity Cube is a retrofitted shipping container that has been transformed into a mobile science lab. It features interactive hands-on science experiments using the latest technology to spark curiosity in the next generation of scientists. The Curiosity Cube allows us to extend our impact beyond the classroom to reach students and their families at public events. The Curiosity Cube experiments are led by local MilliporeSigma employees.
