SDSU Science & Engineering Sampler
Don't miss SDSU's Science & Engineering Sampler. On Saturday, March 23, 2020, from 9am to 2pm, the College of Sciences and College of Engineering at San Diego State University will open their doors to K-12 students and families to showcase interactive exhibits such as: crime solving with forensic science, telescopes, planetarium showings, laser demonstrations, Electron Microscope Facility, MRI Scanner Imaging Center, aerospace, robotics, designing new molecules, and much more.
K-2nd and 3rd-6th students will learn how to code their own video games!
Join the Energy Saving Adventures program and explore the wonders of sports science! Put your horizontal and vertical jumps to the test, explore chemistry by investigating the density of a golf ball, or test your design skills and think like an engineer with the Marshmallow Toothpick Challenge!
In celebration of Pi-Day, and, due to popular demand, SDSU's College of Engineering Femineer Program is hosting a Girl Powered Workshop: Part II in collaboration with Northrop Grumman on Saturday, March 14, 2020 from 9am-12pm. Priority registration will be given to previous attendees from our Fall 2019 Girl Powered workshop. Students will have the opportunity to participate in various STEM activities and engage with STEM professionals.
Art is a powerful tool that can transcend barriers – it can help scientists meet people where they are and tell relatable and impacting stories that move minds. With the Conservation + Comics program, Cabrillo National Monument (National Park Service) provides a distinct experience for youth and families in the greater San Diego area. In our two-part program, participants will be guided by a biologist through a thematic nature exploration of the park, then an art educator will lead the participants in an innovative way to tell scientific stories – through comics!
Join the Energy Saving Adventures program and explore the various wonders of STEM and sports science! Put your basketball skills to the test, build your own race car while discovering engineering and design principles, explore physics through an egg drop experiment, investigate renewable energy and create a wind powered pinwheel, or test your coding skills in the robotics corner!
With many of our partner companies issuing new policies around forgoing events, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this event.
There are many STEM Week events that will still be happening this week! Be sure to check them out by clicking on our “STEM Week” link in the banner above!
Thank you for your understanding and flexibility.
Explore, have fun, and get hands-on with marine science education! Engage with our aquarium Interpreters on the floor to learn about the animals in our Hall of Fishes, Gray Whales migrating off our coast, Specimens in our Oddities collections, and, some of the tiniest but very important organisms in the ocean, known as plankton. Each day will present different ocean-themed activities for the week. These activities are included with the price of admission.
It takes true community spirit and engagement to build a successful Festival Week and momentum to support ongoing programs. Our mission is to provide meaningful year-round STEAM experiences for youth and adults alike in San Diego, and throughout the state of CA through our virtual platform.
